Have you ever looked at the colours that fly by you everyday and blur them into one - well that is what I did.

The Euro notes have many different colours such as grey-green, blue, red, yellow, and if you were lucky to have a purple or green!

Art?

I'm working on essays at the minute so I will be concentrating on that for a week or so. More blogs soon :)

A start at 3D

 I love rings so i decided to mess around with some UK coins and make a ring! I layered coins on top of each other to make a pillar like shape. I like how the colours of the coins jump from their usual order. There is a bit of weight in the ring itself, I suppose its expensive taste*.

 You have all probably seen a pool of coins thrown down on a table somewhere- I decided to pick it up and make it vertical.

 I used the cardboard from an empty toilet roll and taped it into a circular coin shape.

  I like the way you can see what money is - its hollow and empty but without it what would we have?
You can see from my photograph of the basic shape of a 5 euro note on the right that its paper...money is just paper- crumpled, printed, paper.

 I had to capture the shadow that my piece made- I love the layout of it against the blank wall- it looks like its drawn onto the wall itself!

Trade

 I think that clothing has the biggest impact on money as it is such a versatile object- so many different trends, so many different fabrics.

I went to the Market in Galway to witness trade as it happens, although we do not use the type of trade used before the invention of money some of the stall owners still do. They might trade one of their pots of jam for a loaf of bread, whereas we would trade the pot of jam for coins and notes.

Chocolate Money ...

I came across this video today while researching sculpture that related to my project.

Cadburys spots v's stripes did a sculpture for the London 2012 Olympics- It took 4 days to complete.

I am going to try and make my own sculpture piece with empty toilet rolls and form a vertical piece.

Printing Press

Ok so,

         Today I did my first ever print which is fairly exciting- well for me anyway ..  When I was looking at the daunting bag of old money thrown on my desk the idea of the print came- layers and layers of 5,10,20,50 euro notes and a few skattered coins. I actually really like the way the prints turned out seeming as my first!

I also decided to do a slightly 3d abstract sort of piece- its just a starting point for more 3d work- I found articles on Money and the Stock markets in the Irish Independent newspaper which I tore out and glued on top of eachother.
The duplicated 20 euro note give a more childish approach to money as they reminded me of the Monopoly board game notes from my childhood!

I attended an interesting Lecture hosted by Mary Nagle which Typography was the subject- The slides that she showed us I feel really helped me with planning my project- The shadow of the cut out lettering portray the movement perfectly.
